INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICANTS Completed Full-time Application Forms must reach the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic’s office by February 26, 2010. Late entries by March 05, 2010.
All applicants must provide proof of citizenship. Local applications which DO NOT contain the National Registration Number will not be processed.
Non-nationals residing in Barbados should provide proof and copies of their immigration status.
Full-time programmes, Continuing Education programmes and Open and Flexible programmes courses and are scheduled to begin in August.
A non-refundable fee of $10.00 is payable on all late entries.
Applicants MUST BE 16 years old at the time of registration.
Under-subscribed courses may be cancelled.
FULL-TIME COURSES
ONLY one full-time application form can be submitted by applicants. Full-time programmes are held Monday to Friday between the hours of 9.00 a.m. and 3.50 p.m.
Geriatric Studies and Certificate in Basic Computer Maintenance are scheduled to commence in the months of August and January.
PART-TIME COURSES
Most evening courses are held Monday to Friday evenings between the hours of 5.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. However, some courses are held on Saturdays.
Part-time, short courses are scheduled to commence in the months of April, August and January.
OPEN & FLEXIBLE LEARNING PROGRAMMES AND COURSES
Paper Based Open and flexible learning allows students to study in the comfort and convenience of their home or office. Instead of attending classes, students will be given a study package where they learn through: self-study, using the Study Guide, Self-tests and other resources.
Online Instead of attending classes, the work, including examinations will be done online via the Internet. This will be done through self-study material, discussions, chats and emails etc. with peers and mentors.
ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
Full-time applicants will be required to write the Polytechnic’s Entrance Examination in English and Mathematics (multiple choice).
Applicants for the Diploma in Business Studies and Architectural Drafting and Civil and Structural Drafting programmes will be exempted from the Entrance Examination..
The Examination will be held in April this year. Some applicants, if offered a place may be required to take remedial Mathematics and English.
INTERVIEWS
Interviews are normally held during the month of June.
Full-time applicants - applicants are selected for interviews based on test results and the demand for places in the programme.
Continuing Education applicants – applicants are selected for interviews based on the demand for places in the programme/course.
Open & Flexible Learning applicants – all applicants are accepted and are not required to have interviews
